Outdoor Composite Decking

Composite platform, alternative to traditional wood

Composite decking emerged to solve the drawbacks of traditional wood outdoors. With the appearance and warmth of cellulosic fibers but with the reinforcement of the properties of the polymers, a unique compound with great outdoor stability and high durability is obtained.

Different manufacturers of synthetic wood or, by its English name Wood Plastic Composite (WPC), use different proportions of fibers and thermoplastics in its structure. In addition, the incorporation of additives allows the fibers to be coupled to the plastic matrix and guarantees the permanence of the material. Advances in extrusion techniques as well as innovation in Materials Chemistry allow materials such as composite decking to be obtained, which are used, with increasing acceptance, for floor coverings in outdoor spaces and wall coverings.

Characteristics of composite decking:

Laying composite decking allows us to enjoy the beauty and warmth of a wooden floor but without the disadvantages in terms of maintenance that this entails. Like any material exposed to the open air, the composite decking it is subjected to intense wear and tear and, due to its qualities as a natural element, it requires adequate conservation based, mainly, on delicate treatment and regular cleaning. A few simple gestures that will make a difference and will maintain the good appearance of the material over time. The application of composite decking when looking for a wooden floor, is becoming an increasingly popular alternative to cover terrace areas, porch or water areas in outdoor areas. A versatile material that allows its use in a wide variety of shapes and textures that is often difficult to obtain in traditional wood floors.

Before, when we thought of installing an outdoor platform, it was unthinkable to achieve an appearance similar to traditional wood if we did not exactly choose natural wood. The alternatives were so limited that, when a natural effect was wanted, we had to opt for a material that was absolutely vulnerable to the weather. However, today there are alternatives that apparently simulate natural wood, with a similar appearance and texture but more advantageous, especially outdoors. Composite decking for exteriors is made up of a perfect mixture that is revolutionizing the market for exterior decking.

What kind of composition are we talking about?

The mixture of natural wood fibers and polymers manages to obtain a firm material over time. A resistant and durable material that does not splinter or crack and that remains unchanged without the need to spend time and costs to maintain it.

Composite decking for exteriors, contrary to what happens with tropical wood – even treated – are easy to maintain, a simple periodic cleaning is enough to maintain all the appearance and properties of this unique material.

Composite floors are made from a mixture of natural wood fibers and high-quality plastics (high-density polyethylene) that are 100% recycled. It is a very strong construction material that has the same aesthetic appearance as conventional wood, resists humidity, extreme weather and does not rot or splinter. It is especially suitable for exteriors and saline environments where natural wood, even treated, deteriorates in a few months.

The wood that behaves like a plastic outdoors

WPC or composite wood takes advantage of the aesthetic advantages and warmth of natural wood but improves its properties by incorporating the advantages of plastic: HIGH DURABILITY, NO MAINTENANCE, the aesthetic finish and its great structural resistance make it an ideal material for manufacturing  plastic decking and use outdoors, where it has numerous advantages:

  • Without maintenance, saving time and economic resources.
  • Durable, with good mechanical resistance.
  • It does not rot, in contact with sand or sea water.
  • Anticorrosive, it does not deteriorate under the action of chemical products.
  • Fire resistant, does not spread the flame.
  • Impervious to water and humidity.
  • Weather resistant, under any weather conditions.
  • Immune to microorganisms, rodents and insects.
  • Does not require oils, paints or varnishes.
  • Non-slip and safe: will not crack, warp or splinter.
  • Easy installation and cleaning.
  • Available in variety of colors.

It is an environmentally friendly material, since it comes from recycled and recyclable elements. Due to the fact that it comes from the recycling of waste, its use avoids the indiscriminate felling of trees and the saving of forest resources, being 100% ecological.
